The Gelis group utilizes spectroscopic and other molecular probes to address fundamental questions in biology. We currently focus on three major areas of research: chaperone assisted protein folding, protein evolution and mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. Our approach is based on using a set of structural, dynamic and thermodynamic data to interpret in vivo and ex vivo observables. We then generate simple molecular models that help broaden our understanding of these cellular processes.
